OKLAHOMA CITY -

The family of a murdered Air Force veteran is making a plea to the public. They need help solving his murder, and are offering a $10,000 reward of their own money to do it.

Tom and Chol Maxedon say their son was down in Bricktown with two friends having a boys' night out, when they noticed a fight outside the Rok Bar. When they tried to intervene, they got knocked out and their son ended up dying from his injuries.

That fight broke out just before 2 a.m. on Nov. 27, 2011. Daniel Maxedon died March 6, 2012, almost four months after the fight. And his attackers have never been caught.

"You know we just want closure," said Tom Maxedon, Daniel's father. "It's been going on a year and a half and nobody seems to know anything."

Daniel's parents have even hired a local private investigator to look into their son's case.

"Basically my honest opinion is I think Oklahoma City police department is just too overwhelmed and they don't have time for cold cases," said Maxedon.

News 9 checked and the Oklahoma City Police Department does have a special unit specifically devoted to working on cold cases, which has two officers and a civilian volunteer working countless hours to solve the many cold cases that are out there.

Robert Smart is the private investigator the Maxedon's have hired. He is a retired Oklahoma City Police officer and has put surveillance videos of the night in question out on the internet to try generate and leads. Smart says he has also interviewed countless witnesses.

"From the time you see Daniel, the last time you see him in the security video, to the time that the fight is over with is about two minutes," said Smart.

Smart says he believes the attackers know mixed martial arts, but so far neither he, nor the police have been able to identify who the people in the video are. And that's frustrating him, and of course, Daniel's parents.

"It's probably the hardest thing that can happen in your life," said Maxedon. "To lose one of your kids you know? And if anybody out there can come forward with any information, I'd greatly appreciate it. It's bad enough losing your son, but not knowing what happened or who did it makes it even harder."

Smart Investigations is handing out business cards with information about Daniel's murder, hoping it ends up in the hands of someone who will help break this case wide open and lead to the arrest of the person or persons responsible.
