Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the schools playing in the game on Friday night. The facility is a home stadium for more than one team. It has been corrected.

About 30 people broke out into fights near a high school football stadium Friday night, and when police arrived, the group challenged them to a gunfight, police said.

Officers responded to control the crowd outside S.E. Williams stadium, 1514 W. Zion St., before 10 p.m.

The stadium hosted a game between the Central Braves and the Memorial Chargers on Friday night. Tulsa Public Schools Chief of Police Gary Ruddick said those fighting in the parking lot of the stadium were young adults who are not affiliated with Tulsa Public Schools.

Officers said they used pepper spray on the crowd to stop the fighting, but several people threatened to retrieve guns and shoot officials in the conflict.

"Officers confronted these individuals as they made their way toward vehicles and others who claimed to be carrying guns," Ruddick said. "Officers presented their own firearms as the suspects moved to positions where there appeared there would be a gunfight."

At that point, the people got in vehicles and left. No pursuit was started, and no arrests were made, according to police.

It is unclear if those involved attended the football game or if it was in any way related.

One officer is being treated for an injury.
