Family and friends will gather Monday for the funeral of an Okfuskee County sheriff's deputy killed Wednesday while responding to a call west of Okemah.

Deputy David E. Allford, 37, was responding to an "officer needs assistance" call around 4:20 p.m. September 11. The sheriff's office says one of the tires on his vehicles blew out while he was heading eastbound on Interstate 40.

The blow-out caused Allford to lose control of the 2006 Chevy Tahoe. The vehicle ran off the highway, hit a cable barrier and rolled over. Allford, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Allford was a U.S. Army veteran who became a police officer in 2000. He leaves behind a wife, Becky, and two children, Shelby and Wyatt.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 16, at 10 a.m. at the Wetumka First Assembly of God.

Memorial funds have been set up in Allford's name at BancFirst of Okemah and Citizen's State Bank of Okemah.
