The Rogers County Sheriff's Department has created a new bike patrol unit and local businesses helped make it a reality. They donated eight bikes to the department.

Deputies went through training Wednesday with the help of Tulsa County bike patrol officers.

Because Rogers County is more than 700 square miles and has nearly 90,000 people, deputies are always looking for ways they can be more effective.

They say this will allow them to more easily get around in areas where big crowds might gather.

"We're gonna be at football games, the fair, special events in Claremore, anywhere we might be needed," said Sgt. Kyle Baker.

Because Tulsa County deputies frequently assist Rogers County on cases, the newly formed new bike patrol unit will get a chance to return the favor next week by helping Tulsa County deputies patrol at the state fair.
