In a few weeks, a key part of the Affordable Care Act kicks in and Americans will be able to start making choices about their health insurance coverage.

On October 1, the health insurance marketplaces, or exchanges open across the US, giving people a place to shop for plans.

The federal government is giving states hundreds of millions of dollars to get people to sign up to keep premiums low.

States like Connecticut are using the money to help pay for outreach programs. They are holding information sessions to help get the word out.

"We decided to go into the marketplace pretty hard with our marketing efforts to make sure that the consumers are fully educated and engaged," said Phil Boyle, Access Health Connecticut.

You can find out which health insurance marketplace you're eligible for by logging on to www.healthcare.gov.
