Six schools in Oklahoma have been recognized as 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

Two of the schools in northeast Oklahoma are Bartlesville's Mid-High School and Tulsa's Eisenhower International Elementary School.

The Department of Education says Blue Ribbon Schools honor schools where significant improvements are being made in students' levels of achievement.

"Excellence in education matters and we should honor the schools that are leading the way to prepare students for success in college and careers," said Secretary Arne Duncan. "National Blue Ribbon schools represent examples of educational excellence, and their work reflects the belief that every child in America deserves a world-class education."

The department will honor the six Oklahoma schools and schools from across the U.S. at a ceremony in mid-November in Washington, D.C.
