OKC Teen Making Remarkable Recovery After Being Hit By SUV

Doctors wouldn't guarantee a full recovery, but he's proving them all wrong. A teenager, hit by a car last month while riding his bike to Lake Overholser is defying the odds.

Julie Noah told News 9's Evan Anderson her son was doing much better, but when he sat down with the 17-year-old at his bedside Thursday evening, it was amazing to see how far he's come. 

"I could not be talking to you. I could be in the ground right now," Matt Noah said.

It hasn't even been two months since the accident and Matt Noah is already able to carry a full conversation and is learning to walk again.

It was a breaking news story at the top of the 10 p.m. newscast August 8 on News 9. A bicyclist is hit by an SUV at N.W. 10th and Council.

"He had severe brain trauma. He had a severe blood clot which was the only thing they knew that they could fix," said Matt's mother, Julie shortly after the accident.

News 9 interviewed Julie just four days after her son was hit. At the time, Matt was still on a respirator and under chemical sedation. Doctors gave no guarantees he would live.

"They gave us no guarantees that he would make it through even the surgery, much less the recovery process," Julie said.

"I just feel like I've survived something that could have gone even worse than what it was. I could have not lived. I could have died," Matt said.

On the night of accident, Matt was rushed to OU Medical center. He vaguely remembers that night.

"I remember right before I left my mom's house. I just woke up. I got dressed. Did my usual rounds. I made my bed a little bit and put on my clothes. Ate a good breakfast and decided to go ride," Matt said.

"He's obviously not meant to go anywhere because he's still here. He's a miracle," Julie said.

"It's only going to get better from here," Matt said.

Matt says he already has a lot of plans for his future. The first thing though is to graduate from high School. He plans to go back to Putnam City West High as soon as he's physically able. He'll be released from The Children's Center in Bethany early next month.
