OSU Releases Homecoming & Hoops Details

Posted: Updated:
STILLWATER, Oklahoma -

Oklahoma State's Athletics Department, in conjunction with Homeland, will host the seventh-annual Homecoming & Hoops on Oct. 18 at 9 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.

This year's event will be televised in its entirety on ESPN3, as well as on ESPNU.

Homecoming & Hoops combines the traditional football homecoming festivities with the unofficial kickoff to the basketball season. It is the first opportunity that fans will have to check out the newest members of the Cowboy and Cowgirl basketball teams. It has become tradition for students and alumni to walk to the arena following Walkaround after visiting the house decorations along University Avenue.

Included in the event will be introductions of both the men's and women's basketball teams, intrasquad scrimmages for both, as well as a pep rally for the Cowboy football team. Homecoming award winners will also be announced during the festivities.

Due to the event being televised, fans are encouraged to arrive early to show their excitement for the upcoming basketball season. The event will start promptly at 9 p.m., so having the arena full by that time is a necessity. Judging for the house decorations has been moved up, allowing alumni to participate earlier in Walkaround.

The Cowgirl soccer game vs. Texas has been scheduled for 6 p.m. to ensure fans have time to arrive early at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The event is free. However, everyone attending must pick up a ticket outside the venue on either the northeast or southeast corners of Gallagher-Iba Arena. The ticket will include a $5 Homeland coupon. There will also be a Red River Ranch trailer set up on the south side of the arena giving away steak samples starting at 7 p.m.

Oklahoma City's All-Star trio of Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony were bottled up in the first half by an active Utah defense. By the time George and Anthony got going, the come-from-behind climb was too steep. Anthony scored a game-high 26 and George added 22. Westbrook was held to six points on 2-for-11 shooting. He was held to single digits just twice in the two previous regular seasons.
