A house sitting on the very edge of a riverbank near Choctaw was demolished Wednesday morning as the family who once lived there looked on. Their house was too dangerous to stay in after heavy rain from the May 31 storm eroded the riverbank. Their son's house that sat on the property completely fell off the bank.

"It was like a part of me being torn down. We put a lot of work into that," said Gary Buford.

"The rive just, it was taking huge chunks out, it was just because of so much rain and so much moisture in the soil, it was just dropping off and dropping off," added his wife Rhonda Buford.

The Bufords have put their best foot forward to move on even after they said their flood insurance provider and homeowners insurance providers denied their claims.

"We're trying to buy another house in Choctaw," she said. Those plans to close on the government-funded house by October 11 were canceled. "Lots of red tape and now that the federal government has slowed down, have no idea when we will be able to do that."

Now, they do not know when they might be able to move in to the new place and until then, they are stuck in a rental home.

"Kind of feel lonely watching all of the memories being gutted. It's tough."

On Wednesday afternoon, the Bufords said they had hired a lawyer to dispute the decisions by their insurance providers.
