Court papers filed on Friday reveal an Oklahoma City mother is facing two counts of felony child abuse. She is accused of brutally beating her 10-year-old daughter and that the child had bruises all over her body.

Those court papers state that little girl told both her father and police that her mother beat her with a coat hanger and electrical cord on more than one occasion.

Maria Terrazas, 36, spent only one day in jail before she was released on $10,000 bond. Neighbors say they haven't seen her or her boyfriend at their southwest Oklahoma City home in several days.

"I knew there were children over there," said Tammy Bush, who lives next door. "But you never seen them, because she never let them out."

"I've heard screaming once," said her son Scotty Bush. "I just ignored it."

Both Bush and her son say they say they are not surprised by the charges, since they say they saw other signs of abuse coming from the home.

"I knew they abused their dogs, but I didn't think they abused their children," said Bush. "They never fed their dogs. They would tie them up on chains and leave them out there in the pouring down rain where they couldn't get the food, couldn't get the water."

But what reportedly happened behind closed doors was even worse. Court papers state that the 10-year-old girl told both her father and police that on August 30, her mother used a metal coat hanger and hit her in the head and face with it.

She claims the next day, her mother used both an extension cord and a plastic hanger and beat her on her face, neck and legs.

Court documents also reveal when police interviewed Terrazas about the abuse, she told them her daughter was disrespectful and that she was having trouble with her. But because of the language barrier, they terminated the interview.

But these court papers reveal the cuts and bruises on the little girl's face and body were enough to substantiate her claims of abuse.

A court date for the mother has not yet been set. Terrazas has been in jail before for felony DUI.
