Cowgirls Record Fifth Tie

Fort Worth, Texas – Oklahoma State battled to yet another draw Sunday, this time playing a scoreless double overtime contest against TCU at Garvey-Rosenthal Field.

The Cowgirls are now 5-3-5 overall and 1-1-2 in Big 12 Conference play. OSU is 2-0-5 in overtime games this season, and the five ties is a new school record, one more than the 2008 team.

Coach Colin Carmichael's squad racked up 21 shots in the match, 18 of those after intermission, and recorded nine of its 10 corner kicks after the halftime break.

After being outshot 5-3 in the opening half, the Cowgirls seized the attack out of the halftime locker room, and OSU's opportunities were numerous.

In the 61st minute, Krissi Killion hit the crossbar on a shot from nine-yards out after a great cross from Joanna Robertson, and 10 minutes later, Kelsey Bass delivered a free kick that Kristen Kelley sent on frame before TCU goalie Vittoria Arnold leapt and punched the ball over the crossbar.

Next it was Madison Mercado who nearly scored. After beating a charging Arnold, Mercado was thwarted by a TCU defender who made a great play to the kick ball over the end line before Mercado could get off an open-net shot. And on the ensuing corner kick, Kelley just missed her first goal of season once again as her header deflected off the near post.

The frustrations of creating chances and near misses continued until the final whistle as OSU failed to score for the third time this season.

OSU will be off this weekend and will return to action Oct. 18 when the Cowgirls host Texas at 6 p.m.

TU remains unbeaten in Conference USA

Houston, Texas – Alexa Sidorakis scored the game-winner to give Tulsa a 1-0 victory over Rice on Sunday afternoon at the Rice Soccer Stadium in Houston, Texas. TU moved to 9-3-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in Conference USA, while the Owls fell to 4-5-2 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Sidorakis scored her first goal of the season and the third of her career off a pass from Annette Sohmer at the 37:37 mark to give TU its first win against Rice since 2009.

Jordan O'Brien led the Golden Hurricane attack with five shots, while Caitlin Jancuska, Claire Nicholson, Bradi Hinch, Kajal Parmar and Sohmer each had two attempts. Hayley Harryman logged all 90 minutes between the posts, had five saves and recorded her fifth-straight shutout and eighth of the season.

Tulsa had a 19-10 lead in shots, while both teams had five shots on goal, and the Owls took a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Tulsa will return to action on Oct. 12 against Colorado College. Game time is set for noon at Stewart Field in Colorado Springs, Colo.

TU Wins In OT on 100th Minute Goal

Columbia, S.C. – Akeil Barrett netted the golden goal to give Tulsa's 12th-ranked men's soccer team a 2-1 overtime win over South Carolina on Sunday afternoon at the Eugene E. Stone III Stadium in Columbia, S.C. TU moved to 6-3-1 on the season and 1-1 in Conference USA, while the Gamecocks fell to 4-5-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.

South Carolina struck first as Mahamoudou Kaba headed in a corner kick taken by Ryan Arambula at the 54:06 mark, but Cristian Mata quickly got the goal back as he scored in the 59th minute off a pass from Kyle Cumings. Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of regulation and the game was forced into overtime.

As the final seconds of the first overtime period neared, Cristian fed Barrett the ball up the side line and Barrett scored the game-winner with just three seconds remaining in the first overtime period.

Bryce Follensbee had a team-best four shots, while Omar Mata, Barrett and Cristian all had three attempts. Jake McGuire logged all 99:57 between the posts and picked up one save.

TU had a 17-12 lead in shots, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 7-5 lead in corner kicks.

The Golden Hurricane will return to action on Wednesday against New Mexico. The game time is set for 7 p.m.
