Clear, Cool Nights; Sunny, Mild Days.

Posted: Updated:

Getting back into the swing of things after a week's vacation to Kauai, HI. Returned just in time to enjoy some awesome fall weather here in OK; and it is about time as the month of Sep was much warmer than normal and so far Oct is running much warmer than normal as well. So, the cool down of the last few days is long overdue.

Notice the morning low temperatures across the state on the right, courtesy of the OK Mesonet. Certainly the coolest we have been so far this season, and as mentioned long overdue. This cool air will be rather slow to modify over the coming week with morning lows back into the 40s to near 50 again tonight and also Tue night. Daytime highs will be in the 70s for the next couple of days, then the lower 80s as we head into the latter part of the week.

Light northerly winds today are keeping drier air in place which allows for the clear, cool nights and sunny mild days we are enjoying. A more SE wind of 10-12 mph on Tue and Wed will help to warm things up, but moisture will be slow to return. However, stronger southerly winds by late in the week will get some moisture back into the state and bring with it an increase in cloud cover by Friday. Along with that comes a chance of a few showers/storms on Friday followed by better chances over the course of the weekend.

Another cool front still looks to be arriving during the day Saturday, but this system will be much weaker than the system that brought our current cool down. The longer range guidance currently suggests that boundary will stall out over the state. As a result, clouds and chances of rain will likely linger through Sunday and quite possibly into early next week. Notice the 7 day QPF map on the right which suggests the possibility of another inch or so of rain during that time frame.

In the meantime, stay tuned and check back for updates.
