OKLAHOMA CITY -

An accused jewelry thief pulls a fast one at the Gordon's Jewelers at Quail Springs Mall, getting away with an expensive diamond ring. But, he left behind some big evidence: The crime was all caught on tape.

The guy actually sat down with a Gordon's jeweler and looked at several wedding sets before he found the ring he wanted and took off.  The suspect appeared calm the entire time Monday evening as he looked at the ring sets.

"This was in the middle of their business day, obviously 5 p.m. a busy time for them on a Monday," said Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow, OKC Police Dept.

It caught the jewelers completely off guard. Within five minutes of walking into the jewelry store, it looks as if the suspect's getting a closer look at ring. But, he slowly gets up and takes off.

"This man didn't think twice about walking in. He actually made small talk with the clerk for about two or three minutes before finally getting a hold of the ring and then bolting out of the store," said Wardlow.

This is the third brazen thief to hit the jewelry store in the last two months. In August, armed with hammers, thieves busted the glass cases inside the same Gordon's Jewelry and made a break for it with the jewels in hand. They got away with more than 100 pieces of jewelry and the whole thing only took about 30 seconds. One suspect in that robbery has been arrested.

"It was a lot more of a violent event than this was," said Wardlow. "He basically took it and ran."

Investigators say this latest suspect has gauged ears, or large hole in his earlobes without earrings; something that might stick out if he's spotted. The 14-carat white gold ring he ran off with is worth a little over $4,200.

The man was seen leaving Quail Spring Mall, and getting into the passenger side of a white Ford Explorer.
