My 2 Cents: New Indoor Sports Complex In Edmond

Parents all over the metro responded with a "what took you so long?" with the unveiling of a big new indoor sports complex in Edmond.

These are some artist renderings of what the $15-million facility at I-35 and Covell will look like when it's done in the summer of 2015; eight basketball courts, six volleyball courts, two indoor soccer fields, fitness areas, lounge space for casual dining.

Anyone with a child involved in those sports will tell you, it's next to impossible to find court space to practice on, and most of the time you have to travel out of state to get to the quality tournaments.

We've been to the Fieldhouse in Frisco, Texas just north of Dallas for basketball tournaments several times and you drop a lot of money down there on hotel rooms and food, entertainment in between games. And these are now year around sports.

Smartly, back in 2006 Chickasha invested in little league sports building a very nice 15 baseball and softball field complex that includes 11 soccer fields and a football field.

It's high time the metro started tapping into junior sports. Couldn't you see a facility like this down by the Oklahoma River with families having access to all the Bricktown amenities?

This new complex is going to be a financial boon to the Edmond businesses near the I-35 corridor.
