A family of four, including a teen who recently had a kidney transplant, is homeless Friday morning after a fire destroyed their mobile home near Luther.

A fire flared up around 3 a.m. at a mobile home near E. Simpson Road and N3290 Road, just north of Luther. The chief of the Woodcrest Fire Department said it took a while to reach the fire because of its rural location and bad roads.

Four people inside the mobile home, two adults and two teens, were able to safely escape before firefighters arrived; but the blaze destroyed the family's home.

A 17-year-old girl who escaped the fire recently had kidney transplant surgery, and all her medication was lost. The American Red Cross is helping the family replace all the teen's medicine.

It's not known how the fire started.
