Oklahoma Legislator Criticizes AG's Ballot Rewrite

An Oklahoma state legislator is criticizing the attorney general's rewrite of a ballot title for a plan to issue $500 million in bonds to help school districts pay for safe-room shelters.

Rush Springs Democratic state Rep. Joe Dorman said Monday that Republican Attorney General Scott Pruitt's rewrite of the ballot language is "terribly biased" against the proposal. Pruitt notified the Secretary of State's Office on Friday he had rewritten the ballot title because the proposed language didn't comply with state law.

But Dorman says the rewritten title focuses on the business franchise tax used to fund the proposal, rather than placing safe rooms or storm shelters in schools.

Dorman says he is consulting with attorneys to discuss their options, including a possible legal challenge to Pruitt's rewrite.
