A freak accident in Yukon last month nearly killed a local Army reservist. Now his family struggles to pay his staggering medical bills.

J.J. Martinsky Junior, 20, was driving his father-in-law's pickup truck on Garth Brooks Boulevard in Yukon back on September 20.

A huge tree limb fell on his truck just north of Yukon's Middle School. The blow fractured Martinsky Jr.'s skull, and shattered several bones in his face. The blow also broke several bones in J.J.'s neck.

However, the past few weeks, he has made a remarkable recovery.

"It's just crazy that I was driving in time for a tree to fall on me," he said.

J.J.'s mother Stacey says attorneys are right now arguing over who's has responsibility for the tree, that she says is rotten and dead. She says her son doesn't have medical insurance, and his medical bills have already eclipsed $200,000.

Two funds have been set up to help the family. The Bank of Oklahoma has a fund called "The Jerry Martinsky Jr. Medical Fund." Also, on the internet, there is another fund called HOPEMOB "JJ's Road to Recovery."
