TULSA, Oklahoma -

A film shot in Oklahoma had a special screening in Tulsa Tuesday night.

"Playground of the Native Son" tells the story of the Hominy Indians. Oklahoma's all-Indian professional football team went on to play the world champion New York Giants in 1927.

It was shown Tuesday night at the Mayo Hotel downtown.

Much of the film was shot around Pawhuska and was partially funded by a grant from the Osage Nation.

"It's quite an ambitious project for very little money, but so many people believed in the project and believed in me, and as a result we have something quite extraordinary," said producer Celia Xavier.

The film used local extras. Some are related to men who played on the Hominy team.
