Tulsa School Board Approves Sale Of Barnard Site, Turf Replacement

The Tulsa school board approved two big items at their meeting Monday night--the sale of the old Barnard High School site and the replacement of the synthetic turf at two stadiums.

The Barnard site was purchased by Lindsay Development LLC, for $1,005,000. The company plans to build 18 single family homes on the lot.

The Barnard High School building, at 17th and Lewis, caught fire in September 2012 and was destroyed. Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences was using the former elementary school at the time. They have since moved to the former Sequoyah school.

TPS also approved replacing the turf at LaFortune and S.E. Williams stadiums.

The turf is now matted and has lost some of its bounce, which can put players' safety at risk, the district says.

The turf was under warranty, but it will still cost $374,000 to replace. For that price, the district will get a higher quality turf and another eight-year warranty.
