The city of Kingfisher Thursday announced that next Tuesday is when the town's former fire chief can appeal his firing during a public hearing.

However, Former Chief Randy Poindexter's attorney says the time of the day the city is having this meeting is a sham.

Attorney Matt Smith says he asked for the hearing to be held at 5:30 p.m. or later, so more people could attend. He says the 2 p.m. start smacks of some sort of cover up.

"When the Oklahoma Open Meetings Act requires meetings like this be held at a time that's convenient and open to the public, it seems clear there is something to hide."

City Attorney Jared Harrison set up the meeting. The person who answered the phone at his law office Thursday told News 9 he would have nothing to say to us.
