A woman and her grandson escaped a fire at their house that officials say may have been sparked by a space heater.
Fire crews responded to the blaze at about 9 a.m. Friday at a home in the 2400 block of N.W. 14th Street in Oklahoma City.
A woman and her adult grandson are renting the house and have lived there for eight years. She told fire officials that the heater in the house was not working, so the homeowner provided them with space heaters.
"My mom was fixing her something to eat, and the next thing I know, I get a call something about the space heater in her bedroom caught on fire, went up in the curtains, and everything," Pam Alexander said.
Fire officials say the woman's grandson helped her get out of the house. They were not injured. There were smoke detectors in the house, and the two got out as soon as they heard them go off.
