Sapulpa Addiction Recovery Ranch May Close; Landlord Selling Property

A local addiction recovery center may be forced to close.

The ranch where the faith-based program runs is up for sale, and the center may not be able to afford to buy the land to continue operating.

The Lifegate Freedom Recovery Center for men is on leased land west of Sapulpa.

The landlord has given the center 90 days to buy the land for $600,000 or compete with other buyers.

"My heart is here at this place," associate director Clayton Covington said. "It changed who I was."

This recovery center treats people who are at the end of the road when it comes to drug addiction.

"It's night and day to where I was at," recovering addict Dane Stratton said.

At one point, Stratton was walking the streets of Tulsa without a home.

He and other members in the six-month recovery program know their treatment center is facing a difficult decision.

"A lot of the guys do nothing but pray because no one wants to lose this place," Stratton said.

The center's founder says it doesn't have the money or support right now to buy back the land its leased for four years.

Kevin Day said he doesn't know what they'll do without a place to help his members in the program her back on their feet.

"I really pray and hope that somehow we can own this property, and if we own it, then other people can become involved and help us with the building up of this property in what it needs to be," Day said.

Covington went through the program twice.

He's now an associate director at the ranch.

"My heart hurts for the people we wouldn't be able to help if we weren't here," Covington said.

The ranch focuses on rehabilitating addicts with faith-based support as well.

"We don't provide a place for them to stay, we provide them a place to change their life if they want," he said.

Thirty men are in treatment at Lifegate Freedom Recovery Ministries Ranch.

"Now that I know what life is supposed to feel like with God helping me, leading me with every day work, I wouldn't change this sober life for anything," Stratton said.
