OKLAHOMA CITY -

Two people are run down while walking on a metro road and now they're sending out a warning.

On Oct. 18, 2013, the boyfriend and girlfriend were walking on South Santa Fe near 51st St., when a car hit them, then took off.

"I've got some staples up here and they already took the stitches out right here," said Wally Moreno as he pointed to his scalp and forehead.

Moreno suffered two broken legs and a shattered ankle in the hit-and-run accident. Moreno's girlfriend, Jackie Vincent, broke her arm and has a steel plate holding her elbow together.

"We were walking back from the store and the next thing I know I was waking up in the hospital," Moreno said.

The Oklahoma City Police report stated the 17-year-old driver was driving south on Santa Fe when he hit the couple from behind, shattering his windshield. The impact threw Moreno to the concrete.

"I said, ‘He won't wake up, I don't know what's wrong with him.' I thought he was not alive," said Vincent.

The police report said the driver took off, but came back 10 minutes later. The 17-year-old told officers he didn't know he hit someone. Police said he did not have a license.

"We're pretty big together, can you imagine if some little kids or even let alone the parent walking with the little kids, they could miss that parent and get them like nothing," explained Vincent.

She and Moreno are begging drivers to be responsible.

"They have to just stop and think, ‘What if that was you?' So they should just pay attention to driving," Vincent added.

The 17-year-old driver was arrested on charges of causing an injury accident without a license and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

Moreno and Vincent said they have no insurance and have started a fund to help pay for medical expenses.
