The ground in the state continued to rumble as a new round of earthquakes shook up central Oklahoma on Sunday.

The most recent earthquake struck just before 8 p.m. three miles north of the town of Spencer, Okla., 11 miles northeast of the Oklahoma City metro. It weighed in at 3.3 on the Richter Scale, and was recorded at a depth of just over four miles.

The Oklahoma Geological Survey recorded 16 earthquakes centered around Edmond, Jones and Spencer early Saturday morning. At least five more have hit since then.

"This is certainly the largest burst of activity we have seen in this area," said Austin Holland, a seismologist with the Oklahoma Geological Survey. "We know why Oklahoma has earthquakes. It's responding to these large regional stresses that are much smaller than in California where you can better measure the deformation on a fault."

Several Edmond residents reported feeling the larger quakes in Edmond earlier Sunday. There have not been any reports of injuries or damage.

According to the United States Geological Survey, quakes with magnitudes from 2.5 to 3 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans.
