Tulsa Police have a man behind bars they believe is responsible for several armed robberies.

An arrest report states James Edward Shelton tried to sell stolen cell phones back to the person he'd stolen them from the day before.

Officers got a tip from one of Shelton's alleged victims leading them to the suspect on Wednesday, November 13. The owner of a Cricket cell phone store - who also owns the Phone Doctor Store at 31st and Garnett - said Shelton was trying to sell him phones stolen from his other business.

By using descriptions of the 31-year-old convicted felon and his car, a Nissan Maxima with an Azteka paper tag, police say they have tied him to the following armed robberies:

  • November 12, 2013: Police say Shelton robbed an employee at the Cricket store, 7004 East Admiral Place, of cash and cell phones. Shelton reportedly used a black revolver in this crime.
  • November 9, 2013: Shelton is believed to have tried to rob the Approved Cash Advance store located at 3123 South Garnett Road. The robber was armed with a revolver and couldn't get into the business because of their security door.
  • October 22, 2013: Police say Shelton and another man, 23-year-old Augustine Vasquez, robbed a man who was in town for the National Arabian Horse Show. This armed robbery took place in the parking lot of the LaQuinta Inn near the Tulsa Airport, 26 N. 67th E. Avenue.
  • October 20, 2013: Officers say Shelton robbed a man at 7415 East Admiral Place. He was reportedly using a handgun and driving the Nissan with paper tag.

Shelton is being held on a $400,000 bond. Vasquez is also in custody.
