Oklahoma State's visit to Texas was supposed to pit two of the nation's hottest teams against one another in what was shaping up to be a slugfest with Big 12 title implications on the line.

Instead, it turned into Mack Brown's worst home loss in 16 seasons with the Longhorns.

No. 12 Oklahoma State played better in every facet on Saturday and the Cowboys blew the doors off Texas for an impressive 38-13 victory at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, giving the road team its fifth-straight victory in the series and OSU's third-straight in Austin.

Quarterback Clint Chelf executed the Pokes' offensive gameplan to perfection, utilizing the designed quarterback runs that crippled UT in losses against BYU and Ole Miss effortlessly and putting the Horns' defense on its heels.

Chelf ran for most of his 95 yards in the first half, carving his way through an injury-depleted Texas front seven. On the Cowboys' second offensive drive, OSU capitalized on designed runs from their senior QB covering 14 and 22 yards before an 18-yard burst right up the middle from Chelf put the Pokes up 7-0 in a game they would never trail.

After UT answered with a quick field goal, the Horns' weakness against running quarterbacks came back to bite them again. The Cowboys used a balanced passing attack to march down the field before Chelf rolled out on a play action and picked up a big block from fullback Kye Staley to walk untouched into the end zone for a 4-yard TD and a 14-3 lead.

Once Chelf had the OSU run game established, it opened up the rest of the Pokes' playbook and spelled a world of hurt for Texas.

And that sticky situation only got worse for the Longhorns when OSU's ballhawking defense showed up.

Oklahoma State (9-1, 6-1 Big 12) took a 21-10 lead on a 12-yard touchdown connection between Chelf and Tracy Moore with 2:18 remaining in the half, forcing Texas to run its 2-minute offense in an effort to go into the locker room with some momentum in their favor.

Justin Gilbert was having none of that.

The Cowboys' senior corner snagged a lazy Case McCoy pass and returned it 41-yards for a touchdown, breaking UT's spirit with just 18 seconds remaining in the half.

Texas (7-3, 6-1) made an effort early in the third quarter, ending a 10-play, 84-yard drive with a field goal to chip into the lead. However, OSU erased it with a field-goal of its own with a demoralizing 11-play, 53-yard drive that ate more than four minutes off the clock before Ben Grogan connected on a 39-yard kick.

Then things got downright hopeless for Texas. McCoy threw his second of his three interceptions on the day when OSU linebacker baited McCoy into a bad throw across the middle, which Lavey returned 23 yards deep into UT territory.

The Cowboys would make good on the opportunity on the very next play when Chelf connected with Charlie Moore on a 21-yard scoring strike to take an authoritative 38-13 lead.

From there on, the Cowboys played keep-away, clock-management offense and let their amped-defense lay the lumber in a scoreless fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on an impressive victory.

Chelf had 197 yards through the air on 16-of-22 passing with two touchdowns and a pick to go with his 95-yard, two-touchdown performance on the ground in his best performance of the season.

The Cowboy receivers also stepped up in a big way with Josh Stewart sidelined with an injury, as seven different players recorded a catch – led by Charlie Moore's six catches for 83 yards and a TD.

Texas outgained OSU 389-to-380 in total yards but the Cowboys locked down in the red zone and dominated the turnover battle by a 3-to-1 margin to hand UT its first Big 12 loss.

The Pokes harassed McCoy, who completed a solid 26-of-39 passes for 221 yards, into three picks and no touchdowns and limited running back Malcolm Brown to just 2.9 yards per carry on 25 tries after taking over for an injury Johnathan Gray.

Oklahoma State's big victory sets up an even bigger game next Saturday, as the Cowboys host unbeaten and fifth-ranked Baylor at 7 p.m. in Boone Pickens Stadium.
