The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has identified a man who ran onto the University of Oklahoma football field during Saturday's game against Iowa State.

According to the OHP, Trooper Brian Orr is one of several state troopers assigned extra duty for the safety and security of the University's football team and staff.

During the game on Saturday, Trooper Orr saw a suspicious person, later identified as Ronald Butch Mais, running onto the playing field. Orr quickly took Mais into custody.

"Trooper Orr is among several officers responsible for the protection of the University's football team, coaching staff and fans who were attending the game," said OHP spokesperson Captain George Brown. "He perceived a legitimate threat and quickly acted upon that threat by subduing the suspect and taking him into custody."

"With the steady increase in security measures, especially during outdoor sporting events, Trooper Orr's actions were necessary and appropriate given the unknown circumstance this suspect presented at the time," Brown said.

Mais was turned over to OU Police where he was given a citation for disturbing the peace. He was later released.
