When confronted by the Minco Police Officer who first arrived to the scene, Mason allegedly stabbed the officer in the head and shoulder on Tuesday afternoon.

The police officer first used his taser to fend off the suspect and eventually pulled his weapon and shot him in the leg.

Grady County Sheriff Jim Weir arrived moments later and attempted to arrest Mason. Mason allegedly began fighting the Sheriff. A scuffle ensued, but Sheriff Weir was able to take Mason into custody.

"The last few days he's been talking crazy stuff," Crystal Mason explained her husband is bipolar and has been off his medications.

She said he'd been acting delusional for several days.

"One minute it was he is Jesus and the next its the Antichrist. I mean he is just going back and forth," Mason said.

Mason's family was not home at the time of the officer involved shooting but his roommate Wilfred Corum heard the commotion.

"I heard a bomb bang or pop and was like, 'what in the world was that?' So I looked outside and I saw Russell," Corum said.

Corum had been with Mason just before officers arrived and worried he was close to a mental breakdown.

"I was like something is wrong here an I thought boy this is bad and I though maybe he was going off the deep end,"Corum said.

Mason was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to be treated for the gunshot wound. He was later booked into the Grady County Jail.

The Minco police officer is expected to be okay. Authorities are not releasing his name at this time.

The OSBI is handling the investigation into officer involved shooting.

Sheriff Jim Weir also sustained injuries to his leg during the arrest. He was treated at a local hospital for his injuries.
