A trio of Oklahoma World War II Veterans were given the highest honor you can get from the country of France Tuesday at the Oklahoma State Capital.

Counsul General of France Sujiro Seam pinned what his called "The French Order of the Legion of Honor" on W.M. Lynch, L.M. Sullivan, and Oren Peters.

Mr. Lynch lives in Norman, both Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Peters live in Edmond. Peters says he was touched by the ceremony.

"I don't think it's warranted, but I will accept it," he said. "We all left to take care of the business that needed to be taken care of. And I think we did a good job."

Counsul General Seam says the French government is seeking out American World War II veterans globally because France wants their help to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Landing at Normandy, and the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

"My country would not be what it would be without the United States," he said.
