Meningitis Claims Life of Coyle High School Football Player

Meningitis claims the life of an Oklahoma high school football player. The 15-year-old from Coyle played in Friday's game and showed no signs of sickness.

We're told 15-year-old Gary Myers, known by family and close friends as Trey, was in good spirits at Friday night's football game.

The Coyle High School 10th grader was taken to the hospital Saturday, and died Monday night.

News that a young life was taken by meningitis had parents and Coyle school administrators concerned about it being contagious.

There are only 300 students in the entire district, which include Langston and Meridian.

Coyle school superintendent Josh Sumrall posted on the schools' website that "Coyle Public Schools has received verification from the Medical Director at Baptist Integris Hospital that this particular case of meningitis is not contagious."

Grief counselors from surrounding communities were available for students and staff on Tuesday.
