Instant Analysis: Tulsa Wins No. 600 Against La. Tech

Posted: Updated:

TU defeated Louisiana Tech, 24-14, Saturday afternoon. Here's a quick look at what happened, stay with us for a full game recap.

What it means:

It took a lot longer than they wanted it to, but TU football finally has 600 all-time wins.  Tulsa is now 600-461-27 all time and used its best player to help get there.  You'll read about him in a moment, but also give the TU defense some credit for forcing four turnovers in big spots.  The Golden Hurricane is now 3-8, which is far from where they wanted to be, but as a chance next week to end the season on a two-game winning streak.

Player of the game:

Trey Watts. Easy.  A whopping 40 carries for 189 yards and three touchdowns led the way for the TU victory.  Watts also caught four balls for 23 yards.  Watts has 1,610 total yards and 12 touchdowns on the season, putting together one of the most impressive years in TU football history.

Easy pickins:

Both quarterbacks struggled mightily Saturday, combining for seven interceptions and just one touchdown.  TU's Dane Evans threw three of those picks, but the Hurricane was able to overcome.  Moving forward into next season, TU's No. 1 goal will be to find more consistency from the quarterback position.

What's next:

Tulsa will play its final game as a member of Conference USA next Saturday at Chapman Stadium.  TU faces North Texas on Senior Day, with plenty of pride to play for.  Watching Watts play his final game as a Golden Hurricane will be worth the price of admission.
