Zero's Hour: Westbrook Buries Warriors In OT

Russell Westbrook had inarguably his worst offensive showing of the year with a 2-of-16 shooting performance in the Thunder's victory against the Spurs on Wednesday.

So, how would Oklahoma City's dynamic point guard respond? Pretty darn well.

Golden State's torrid offense had OKC on the ropes all night and, for the better part of the game, it seemed like No. 0 was the only one willing to fight back. Westbrook had done nearly everything to keep Oklahoma City in the fight and then, fittingly, he threw the final haymaker when it mattered the most.

Here's how it unfolded: A potential game-tying jumper from Serge Ibaka fell short with five seconds left on the clock in overtime; Westbrook flew in from the wing and batted the ball away from Jermaine O'Neal; Thabo Sefolosha went flying out of bounds and saved the ball with a no-look toss back into play.

Westbrook caught it one handed, headed off to the corner, set up and fired over Harrison Barnes – ball game.

The 3-pointer found its mark and The Peake went into pandemonium, as Westbrook willed the Thunder to a thrilling 113-112 overtime victory against the Warriors.

It was appropriate that Russ would have the final say after scoring 34 points and recording seven assists and five steals – all game bests.

He wasn't necessarily efficient on 10-of-25 shooting, but he hit timely shots, kept plays alive, played bulldog defense and got to the foul line, where he connected on 12-of-15 free throws.

Westbrook is now 2-of-21 in his career on potential game-tying or game-winning shots in the final five seconds; both have come against the Warriors.

On the flip side, it was a rather forgettable night for Kevin Durant despite scoring 25 points. He was just 7-of-22 from the floor and had just 10 points heading into the fourth quarter. He also missed two potential game winners, one in regulation and the other late in overtime. That said, KD still contributed with 15 late points, converted on 11-of-12 free throws and snagged 13 rebounds.

Serge Ibaka was the only other OKC player to reach double figures and he had another stout outing with 18 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks on 6-of-11 shooting.

Stephen Curry did his best to match Westbrook in an exciting point guard duel, leading Golden State with 32 points, five assists and 11 rebounds on 13-of-26 shooting. Harrison Barnes had 26 on 10-of-15 shooting, as all five Warrior starters reached double figures.

Overall, the Warriors outshot the Thunder 44.2 percent to 39.1 percent but Oklahoma City outscored the Warriors by 15 at the free-throw line and had a 15-5 edge in fast-break points.

The win was the Thunder's sixth straight, as OKC improved to 11-3 on the year and 8-0 at home.

Oklahoma City wraps up its six-game home stand on Sunday when it hosts Minnesota at 6 p.m.
