TU Falls To TCU In Great Alaska Shootout

Tulsa fell to TCU, 72-65, in the semifinals of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout Friday night at George M. Sullivan Arena.

James Woodard scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Rashad Smith scored 11 points to lead the Golden Hurricane (1-5). Amric Fields scored 18 points and Brandon Parrish scored 15 points to lead the Horned Frogs (4-2).

The Hurricane nearly erased an 18-point second-half deficit. TCU held a 31-22 advantage at the half, and extended its lead to 18 points – 49-31 – at the 12:45 mark. Over the next nine minutes, the Hurricane whittled the deficit down to five points with a 23-10 run, trailing just 59-54 with 3:47 remaining.

TU pulled as close as 65-61 after a 3-pointer by Woodard with 1:26 left, and trailed 68-64 following a dunk-and-free-throw play by Woodard with 0:40 remaining. TCU, however, made a pair of free throws and a late layup to close the game.

Marquel Curtis tallied nine rebounds and eight points, leading TU to a 38-34 advantage on the boards. In his most extensive playing time to date, freshman Stevie Repichowski scored seven points with a pair of 3-pointers in nine minutes.

Tulsa shot 40 percent from the field (24-of-60), made 13-of-22 free throws and recorded 16 assists and just nine turnovers. TCU shot 48 percent from the field (25-of-52), 17-of-29 from the free throw line, and committed 11 turnovers with 19 assists.

The Golden Hurricane will play either Green Bay or Harvard in the third-place game of the Great Alaska Shootout at 6 p.m.
