OKLAHOMA CITY -

While tornado damaged and destroyed homes are being built in southwest Oklahoma City, construction has stopped for one homeowner.

"It's frustrating," said Paul Ankenman, who lives on S.W. 148th.

Ankenman told News 9 the red tape surrounding a special coating he had applied to some heating ducts within his concrete slab has stopped construction.

According to Ankenman, an OKC home Inspector said the product was not up to code, and has to be removed.

"You are talking about punching holes in the floor, that's thousands of dollars that we don't have," Ankenman said.

The OKC inspector questions the products' smoke and heat resistance.

Duct Armor, a company in Tulsa, makes the material and tells News 9 its product has passed numerous safety test and is being used all over North America. Duct Armor said it's appealing the inspector's decisions.

An OKC spokesperson said it's waiting to get more information for the company, but hopes to have the situation resolved soon.

In the meantime, Ankenman waits to see when he can restart construction. No work has been done for the past month.

"I feel like we are a pawn in the middle of this," said Ankenman about the situation.
