The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is accepting leaf donations through December 18 for its Urban Harvest program.

"These leaves will be converted to mulch and compost for Urban Harvest's in-house garden, as well as various community gardens around Oklahoma City," said Mason Weaver, director of Urban Harvest.

According to officials, Urban Harvest is a sustainable gardening program of the Regional Food Bank. The four central goals of the program are agricultural education, fresh food production, community outreach and ecological conservation.

To donate leaves, email Mason at mweaver@regionalfoodbank.org.

Meanwhile, officials say because they closed the Regional Food Bank and the Volunteer Center on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they are dangerously close to not having enough Food For Kids sacks packed for the week's distribution.

The food bank is needing volunteers to help pack these backpacks. Contact the Food Bank at (405)-600-3161 for more information.
