WAGONER, Oklahoma -

When Wagoner police arrested a woman on Black Friday for trying to pass a counterfeit check, they had no idea Tulsa Police had arrested her for the same crime just two weeks earlier. They also had no idea she has a long list of convictions, dating back to the 1990s.

Police say Angela Adkins was out on bond on a case in Tulsa County and also out on bond in McAlester County when Wagoner Police arrested her, they say, with a whole stack of counterfeit checks--600, to be exact.

Stack after stack of checks were in other people's names. Some are individuals and some are in the names of businesses. They say she also had about a dozen different driver's licenses--people from out of state, as well as from Tulsa, Jenks and Sand Springs.

They say she was going to different locations, passing the checks to buy things or get cash.

"Use Black Friday, with all the people there and the commotion, to slide them through," said Wagoner Police Chief Bob Haley.

Police arrested Angela Adkins, who court records say also goes by Ross, Anderson and Williams, as well as Josephine Hays and Peggy Bowell, to name a few.

She has several different mugshots on record with the Department of Corrections, which shows she has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1995, including convictions for larceny, several forgeries and more.

Even though she was arrested in Tulsa on November 15, and then bonded out, police say she was back at it in Wagoner, just 14 days later.

"I was at the store that night when she was in custody, she was sitting there looking bored," Haley said.

Wagoner investigators are now in the process of contacting the 60 different victims to let them know either their ID has been used illegally or their checks were counterfeited and misused, so they can begin the process of repairing the damage.

"A lot of times, people don't know it until they go to buy a car or a home and find things on their credit report, then it turns into a nightmare, trying to get it off your credit report," Haley said.

Records show Adkins spent two days in the Wagoner County jail and is currently out on bond, which means she's been arrested and faces charges and is out on bond now in three counties.

Police say, in order to protect yourself, don't mail your bills from your house, only at the post office, and don't leave any documents inside your car and certainly not in your purse.
