One day after being selected as Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, OU freshman point guard Jordan Woodard was named the Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Week on Tuesday by CBSSports.com's Jeff Borzello, in partnership with the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

Woodard registered career highs of 24 points and eight assists in OU's only game of the week, a 101-91 win over Tulsa on Saturday. He tied a career high with three rebounds and added a steal.

Woodard tallied his 24 points despite attempting only four field goals (made three). He scored 17 points at the free throw line on a school-record-tying 22 attempts.

On the season, Woodard is averaging 11.9 points and a team-high 4.9 assists per game for the 9-1 Sooners. He ranks fifth in the Big 12 in assists (first among freshmen and sophomores) and fourth with his 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Integris Wayman Tisdale Award is to be presented to the national freshman of the year at the Devon Energy College Basketball Awards on April 14, 2014, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The Oscar Robertson Trophy and the Henry Iba Coach of the Year Award will also be presented at the gala to be held annually the Monday following the NCAA Men's Final Four.

Tisdale was a three-time USBWA All-American at OU who played on the 1984 U.S. Olympic basketball team and spent 12 seasons in the NBA before retiring in 1997 to focus on a blossoming jazz music career. In March 2007, he was diagnosed with cancer and, following a courageous and difficult battle that included the amputation of his right leg in 2008, he passed away in May 2009.

Tisdale became the first OU player in any sport to have his jersey retired in 1997. He is OU's all-time leader in points (2,661) and rebounds (1,048) despite playing just three years in college.

The Sooners are back in action Tuesday when they host UT Arlington at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be televised by FS Southwest Plus and FOX College Sports Central.
