Ikard Named First Team AFCA All-American

University of Oklahoma senior Gabe Ikard picked up his second All-America First Team honor this season by being named to the 2013 AFCA FBS Coaches' All-America Team Wednesday.

With 53 Sooners being named to the team 62 times in history, Oklahoma has had the most players named to the AFCA Coaches' All-America Team. Already named a Walter Camp First-Team All-American, Ikard has also won the Wuerffel Trophy and the Selmon Spirit Award this postseason. The senior has been named the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year, was a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete and was a consensus All-Big 12 First Team pick by both the coaches and the Associated Press.

Ikard has started 49 games in his career, including all 12 this season. Thanks in part to Ikard, the Oklahoma offense ranks second in the conference and 18th nationally with 235.8 rushing yards per game. The offensive line has also allowed just 14 sacks this year, a figure that ranks 17th in the country.

During Bob Stoops' tenure as head coach, Oklahoma has produced 34 All-Americans with 16 coming on offense, 16 on defense and two on special teams. Oklahoma players have been named to a First-Team All-America squad 154 times in program history.

Ikard is the first Sooner to be an All-American since wide receiver Ryan Broyles in 2011, the first Sooner offensive lineman to be an All-American since tackle Trent Williams in 2009 and the first OU center to be an All-American center since Vince Carter in 2004.
