OKLAHOMA CITY -

A man who Oklahoma City Police say beat his wife with a rifle on Saturday in the couple's front yard, turned a gun on himself six hours later.

Police got the 911 call just before 1 p.m. to come to the 18000 Block of Montoro Way.

When police arrived, they say they saw the man beating his wife.

Police say the man ran back into the couple's home and barricaded himself inside, refusing to communicate with police.

When SWAT members and a robot forced their way into the home just after 6 p.m., police heard a gunshot. They later found the man dead.

Mark Whitte lives three doors down from the couple.

"I'm kind of I wouldn't say scared, but it is concerning," he said. "This is a friendly neighborhood."

Police are waiting to release the man's name until they can contact other members of his family.

They would not speculate on the source of the argument between the man and his wife.
