Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Missouri man accused of opening fire on one of their own during a pursuit late Thursday night.

Around 11 p.m. December 26, a state trooper working on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike near Elgin stopped 19-year-old Kwade Sanderson for a traffic violation. The trooper said Sanderson suddenly took off, and a chase began.

According to OHP, Sanderson began shooting at the trooper with a long rifle during the pursuit. The trooper returned fire. No one was hit.

Sanderson eventually abandoned his car in the Fletcher/Elgin area and began to run. Troopers searched for several hours and finally found him hiding in the area around 8:30 a.m. Friday. He was taken into custody without incident.

Troopers also located Sanderson's weapon. He was booked into the Comanche County Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
