McCLAIN COUNTY, Oklahoma -

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper stumbled upon a chaotic scene Saturday morning. Now investigators with OSBI and the McLain County Sheriff's Office are trying to figure out what led to a woman being shot.

It happened just off Interstate 35 at Adkins Hill Road around 9 a.m.

"He seen a vehicle there and the doors were open and he seen an individual [lying] out of the door," explained McLain County Sheriff Don Hewett. "A person yelled out somebody had been shot. That's when he took control of the scene."

The trooper found a 34-year-old woman shot through her stomach inside a car with three other men. The bullet, according to Hewett, entered her left side and exited her right side. She was rushed to the hospital where surgeons repaired her wounds. As of Saturday evening, she was still sedated in the hospital.

The three men, also inside the car when the woman was shot, were all taken in for questioning. Hewett said one of them was a 16 year old. Agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spent hours combing through the car for evidence. They recovered a gun believed to be a 9mm.

They also found what looked to be a meth lab in the trunk of the car but upon further investigation it was determined it was not a meth operation. Several credit cards, possibly stolen, were also recovered.

Hewett said they did not have a motive locked down for the shooting. The victim got out of surgery Saturday afternoon and as soon as she is able to talk, investigators will question her about what happened.
