TULSA, Oklahoma -

Three families are homeless after a Tulsa apartment fire early Tuesday that investigators say was likely caused by smoking.

The Tulsa Fire Department got the call to the apartments in the 5200 block of East 47th Place at about 1:50 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters said they found flames coming from the second floor of a two-story apartment.

Tulsa Fire Captain Kofi Wallace says they were able to knock the fire down quickly. He says the fire's cause appears to be accidental.

"We believe the fire to be accidental at this time, however we still do have investigators en route to give us a definitive determination on the fire," said TFD Captain Kofi Wallace.

He says the apartment with the fire was heavily damaged and two neighboring apartments sustained smoke and water damage.

No one was injured.

The Tulsa Area Red Cross is working to find places to stay for a total of 14 people including three families. Jan Hale of the Red Cross said six adults and eight children were displaced.

Investigators determined the fire was caused by smoking and originated in the second story apartment, according to Tulsa Fire Department Public Information Officer Captain Stan May.
