TULSA, Oklahoma -

Taxi stands are set up in Tulsa as a way to help prevent drinking and driving on New Year's.

The City of Tulsa worked with the Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission (ABLE) to make taxis an easy alternative at some of the hotter spots for nightclubbing in town.

The plan is to have cabstands filled with taxis ready to take people home who have had too much to drink.

"We do want them to know that if they go out and have a couple of extra drinks or you think you may have had too many drinks to drive, plan to take a cab and know that when you leave, there will be a cab available," said Agent Erik Smoot, ABLE.

"They'll be sitting there in the cabstand ready to take you home when you leave the bar."

There are two cabstands downtown - one at the northwest corner of Cameron and Main in the Brady Arts District and a second in the Blue Dome District at the northeast corner of Elgin and 2nd Street.

Taxis will also be set up on Cherry Street and Brookside.

City of Tulsa Media Relations Officer Michelle Allen said the city made cabstand signs in their sign shop for about $160.
