A doctor accused of murdering nine patients was under investigation by the Oklahoma Board of Osteopathic Examiners for over a year.

Dr. William Valuck is facing 52 felony counts in relation to over-prescribing prescription drugs.

The State Board of Osteopathic examiners began their investigation back in May 2012 when they learned the OBN and DEA was also looking into Dr. Valuck. The doctor surrendered his medical license earlier this month.

Christina Green became addicted to pain killers after complications surrounding the birth of her daughter. Despite three trips to detox and a medical chart that revealed her addiction, Green's sister and investigators say Green was able to get prescription drugs from Dr. William Valuck.

"I feel like a part of it, he was helping her write her death sentence," said Green's sister Kathy.

Green died September 20, 2012 after mixing prescription drugs, just days after her daughter was diagnosed with cancer.

"It was the hardest thing ever to tell this little 9-year-old girl battling leukemia that her mom just passed away," Kathy said.

At the time Green died, the Oklahoma State Board of Osteopathic examiners had already began their investigation of Dr. Valuck.

The complaint filed by the board says in February 2013 investigators reviewed Dr. Valuck's prescriptions and found the Doctor was on pace to write 29,564 CDS prescriptions in a year, patients utilized pharmacies in 50 different cities, and the medical records of the six patients that died during their investigation were illegible.

In May 2013, the special prosecutor on the case decided to take action and try to take Dr. Valuck's license.

"This is a process that takes a lot of time because obviously our investigators want to make sure they're getting the right information, the correct information they can present to the board because we have to prove it with clear and convincing evidence," said Richard Mildren the special prosecutor for the board.

Dr. Valuck would continue practicing until he surrendered his license on December 13. Law enforcement says three more people died during that time period.

OBN AND the DEA was also investigating during this time period. Dr. Valuck was arrested in Texas this weekend.

Dr. Valuck is currently in the Oklahoma County Jail. Official charges have not been filed yet.
