Tulsa Sets New Record Low Temperature For January 6

TULSA, Oklahoma -

The National Weather Service says Tulsa set a new record low temperature for January 6th. The temperature fell to -2 at 7:14 a.m.  The previous record of 0 degrees was set in 1912.

The National Weather Service initially said the temperature hit -1 but revised that to -2 later in the morning.

The National Weather Service's wind chill advisory is in effect until noon Monday for Adair, Cherokee, Creek , Delaware, Latimer, LeFlore, Mayes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Nowata, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Pittsburg, Rogers, Tulsa, Wagoner and Washington counties. It also includes Chautauqua and Montgomery counties in Kansas.

Craig and Ottawa counties are under a wind chill warning until noon.

The National Weather Service reported temperatures of 5 degrees below zero in Bartlesville, 1 below in Ponca City and 0 in both Stillwater and Gage and wind chill indexes of 13 below in Gage, 12 below in Tulsa and 10 below in Enid.

News On 6 meteorologist Alan Crone says the cold air will remain in place Monday before slowly moving east on Tuesday.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says roads are still slick in spots in the Tulsa area and across northern Oklahoma. ODOT says sand truck crews are still out Monday morning.
