Tulsa County Sets Public Hearings For Macy's Tax Plans

TULSA COUNTY, Oklahoma -

The public has a chance to weigh in on incentives being offered to bring a Macy's distribution center to Tulsa County.

County leaders made a deal with Macy's that if it built in the county, the company would not have to pay property taxes for at least 10 years. The county says the future site of the facility - a field outside Owasso - isn't generating taxes now, so there's nothing to lose.

The distribution center is projected to generate $80 million a year, and add 2,500 jobs to the workforce - making it one of Tulsa County's largest employers.

Those public hearings will take place during the regularly scheduled County Commissioners meetings at 8:30 a.m. January 21st and 9:30 a.m. February 3rd at the Tulsa County Courthouse Room 119, 500 South Denver.

Commissioner John Smaligo said another meeting will take place at 9:30 a.m. January 9 in Room 315 of the Tulsa County Administration Building. Representatives of the taxing districts that will be affected by the tax incentive program will be present - such as schools, the health department and public library.

That review hearing is also open to the public, Smaligo said.

County commissioners will still have to approve the plan after those public hearings.
