A man who helped run an organization that helps children who have parents in prison has been convicted of raping a teenaged family member.

A jury convicted Tshaka Ali Rivers, 32, and recommended a sentence of 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors say his 16-year-old family member told police in 2012 that he came into her bedroom and raped her.

According to the arrest report, the girl said Rivers told her, "We are going to keep this between us."

Police said the girl told her aunt immediately and the aunt called police.

Rivers had spoken with News On 6 as program director of New Hope, an organization dedicated to supporting children whose parents are in prison.
