Marcus Smart scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Oklahoma State Cowboys past the Texas Longhorns, 87-74, on Wednesday night in Stillwater.

Equally brilliant was Markel Brown, who scored 27 points on 8-13 shooting.  The two Cowboy stars combined to hit 27-34 from the free-throw line.

OSU outperformed the Longhorns in most statistical categories.  The Pokes shot 46 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from downtown.  Texas managed just 40 percent shooting and a lowly 16.7 percent from deep.  OSU led in assists (13-11), steals (13-5), blocks (8-4), and turned the ball over nine fewer times.  Texas held a 45-33 rebound advantage against the undersized Cowboys.

OSU led by one at the break, but a Jonathan Holmes layup put the Horns up 39-38 to start the second half.  Brown proceeded to score five straight and propel a 9-0 run, putting Oklahoma State up 47-39.  The Pokes led by as many as 15 in the second half as they cruised to the win.

Phil Forte got hot off the OSU bench, hitting 4-8 from 3-point range and scoring 14 points.  Brian Williams added nine points on 3-4 shooting.

Texas had five players in double figures but no one that scored more than 12.  Demarcus Holland had 12 and 10 rebounds, while Damarcus Croaker also added 12 points off the bench. Conner Lammert chipped in 11, while both Jonathan Holmes and Isaiah Taylor scored 10.

Oklahoma State improved to 13-2 overall and 1-1 in Big-12 play, while Texas fell to 11-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Cowboys play at West Virginia on Saturday.
