Tulsa Fire Department Resolves Computer Issues; Problems Still Loom

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

The Tulsa Fire Department reports that some issues with their dispatch system have been resolved, but problems remain with the flow of information from dispatch to the fire stations.

The fire department is using a new dispatch system at the 911 center, but has receiving equipment at the stations that was installed in 1996.

Replacing the equipment at the stations would cost $1.8 million.

The department had particular problems on Oct. 1, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16, when the dispatch system could not automatically sound alarms at the stations.

As a backup, firefighters have been listening to radio traffic to make sure they don't miss a call. After several new successful tests, the fire department says that practice will stop today.

The dispatch system cost $2 million and was installed in 2013.
