With a whole week to prepare for their trip to West Virginia on Saturday, Oklahoma was looking to build on last Saturday's win over Kansas State and right the ship after a rough start to Big 12 play.

Instead, the Sooners fell behind by 17 points right out of the gate and never recovered as West Virginia held off the Sooners' second half rally for a 77-63 win.

Bria Holmes' 3-pointer eight minutes into the game gave West Virginia at 25-8 lead as the Mountaineers started the game 7-for-9 from the field. West Virginia shot a sizzling 61.9 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range.

Aaryn Ellenberg scored 17 of her 28 points in the first half as the Sooners closed within 5 and trailed 39-31 at halftime.

OU tied the game 53-53 with 11 minutes to play, but made just three of its next 20 field goal attempts while West Virginia added on with a 10-0 run.

Christal Caldwell led the Mountaineers with 23 points and made all five of her 3-point attempts. Bria Holmes scored 21 points and Linda Stepney had 17.

Sharane Campbell was the only other OU player in double figures with 11 points.

It is Oklahoma's first 2-3 start in conference play since the 1998-99 season.
